# Personal-care SaaS — market research record

> Captured 2026-07-13 from a market-sizing + competitive-analysis session. This is the
> raw record so the reasoning isn't lost as the conversation grows. Numbers feed

## The reframe

For a **solo** operator, "capture 1% of the market" is the wrong lens. Indonesia has
~64M MSMEs — 1% = 640,000 customers, impossible to serve alone. Every market here is
effectively infinite vs. solo capacity. The binding constraints are **throughput /
support** and **ARPU** (higher ARPU → fewer accounts for the same income).

## Six product lines (Indonesia)

| Line | Market size (ID) | Growth / adoption | Model |
|------|------------------|-------------------|-------|
| Website / company profile | ~64M MSMEs, ~40–46% go-digital | E-com USD 94.5B→194B, 15.5% CAGR | One-off |
| WhatsApp automation | >100M WA users; 60% SMEs use WA API | APAC 23.9% CAGR (highest) | Recurring |
| POS + commission | Millions of retail/service SMBs | Majoo alone 30k+ SMEs | Recurring |
| F&B QR / menu | 5.28M F&B businesses (BPS 2024) | 4.85M→5.28M in a year | Recurring, low ARPU |
| Booking (clinic/salon) | Thousands of clinics + 100k+ salons | Aesthetics 11.5% CAGR | Recurring, sticky |
| Insurance lead-gen | Penetration ~3.5%; life premium IDR 156T | CI demand rising | Commission / LTV |

## Vertical buying-power scoring

Best customer ≠ most customers. Winners on buying power × margin × commission-fit:

1. **Aesthetic/beauty clinics** — USD 257M (2023) → 490M (2029), 11.5% CAGR; cash-rich,
   60–80% margin, therapist/dokter commission + booking + packages. Pay 500k–1M+/mo.
2. **Spa / wellness** — spa products USD 1.5B (2024) → 2.37B; same product shape.
3. **Gym / fitness** — only 2,200 clubs, 1.6M members, 1% penetration, 11.4% CAGR
(fastest in region); membership billing + PT commission; very sticky but small TAM.
4. **Salon / barber** — biggest volume, validated commission pain (manual calculator
errors, tiered-by-seniority, split when multiple staff), but lower ticket & price-sensitive.
5. Skip as beachhead: **F&B café/resto** (margin-poor, crowded), **property** (needs CRM
not POS), **automotive** (70% informal, low digital-readiness).

### ARPU math — accounts needed for IDR 50M/mo

| Land on | ARPU/mo | Accounts needed | Solo load |
|---------|---------|-----------------|-----------|
| Salon/barber | ~250k | 200 | heavy |
| Gym | ~600k | 83 | moderate |
| **Clinic/spa** | ~800k–1M | **50–60** | light, high CAC tolerance |

## Competition & gaps

| Incumbent | Price | Weakness |
|-----------|-------|----------|
| Moka / Majoo / Pawoon / Olsera (POS) | 128k–799k/mo | Retail-generic; commission is an afterthought |
| Zenwel / Kluto / ReBill (booking) | 200k–400k/mo | Thin, POS-first, clunky UX, hard onboarding |
| Wix / Niagahoster / Fastwork (web) | Rp99k–3M | Price war — not a moat; use as front-door |

**Moat thesis:** UX + Bahasa copywriting wins in *daily-use software* (POS/booking/WA)
where buyers are non-technical and incumbents are bloated. It does NOT win in websites
(commodity, already lost on price). Evidence: POS/booking markets are fragmented with
weak loyalty (no one has won on experience); websites have collapsed to price.

## Gameplan

1. Land: aesthetic clinics + spas (premium tier 500k–1M/mo).
2. Expand: salon → barber → nail (cheap tier 150k–300k/mo), same product.
3. Front-door: website-in-a-day (cash + lead feeder) and WhatsApp automation.
4. Long-game: insurance funnel via Vision Agent (best LTV, slow, run passively).

Geography: **Indonesia-first** decisively. SEA later, only for language-agnostic
software after winning a niche. Global = trap for a solo bootstrapper.

## Model outputs (Target scenario, from Money HQ)

- Personal-care SaaS: year-1 ≈ Rp 191M, ARR steady ≈ Rp 393M, compounding score 89.
- Websites: year-1 ≈ Rp 277M (one-off), compounding 29.
- WA automation: year-1 ≈ Rp 139M, ARR ≈ Rp 307M.
